Wondering what it takes to have happy and hardworking staff in your healthcare business?
As a healthcare Business Owner or Manager, maybe you’re at a real low point right now with staffing issues occupying A LOT of your time? Do you have staff who are negative, who gossip or struggle to manage the simplest of tasks. Or maybe you have certain staff who never seem to be happy at work. Although there may be some days where you feel like you have your staffing issues under control, there are probably more days where you feel like it’s all too much. I bet you’ve thought to yourself……’shouldn’t staff just be happy that they have a job’
The the reality is, work is so much more to many than that just a job. Your staff want direction, they crave leadership and they thrive on opportunities to develop and grow. They want to be part of a workplace where communication is timely and transparent, and, where they are supported to be the best they can possibly be. They want YOU, to place an importance on improving workplace culture and really understand what it means.
But here’s the thing. Understanding culture, it can be a tricky kinda thing. There’s so many different ways you can optimise or improve culture in your healthcare business. In a recent Deloitte Global Human Capital Trends Survey 82% of respondents agreed than an attractive and effective working environment provides a genuine competitive advantage to a business however, only 28% felt they had a good understanding of their culture. In simple terms what this is saying is that your business will be more attractive to others, to staff, patients and providers, if you invest in understanding and improving the culture.
Culture is not something that you can feel or touch or even handover to someone. It’s something you, and the people in your healthcare business, can create. It’s often described as the ‘personality’ of your business. The environment, the relationships, the behaviours and processes all rolled up. It’s what makes your workplace different to the rest. A positive workplace culture is what what makes happy and hardworking staff in your healthcare business.
